It's National Reading Month! Let's Read Some LGBTQ+ Books!
Hello friends, and welcome to National Reading Month! March also contains World Poetry Day and Trans Day of Visibility. Sounds like a great convergence of events to celebrate some queer books, don't you agree?
DISCLAIMER: We at Virtual Queer Library do not endorse the individual views or actions presented within the books available here. We do, however, believe in learning and growing through literature. We appreciate you being on this journey with us.
Our virtual catalogue of books is now live and can be viewed Here.
This list and spreadsheet are a work in progress, so a few important notes:
❤ Not all the books have trigger warnings added! It does not mean that there are no triggers in the book. Please read with caution. We will be updating this continuously.
❤ Books that have explicit content are marked as Mature. Having frank, age-appropriate content about the human body is not Mature. The existence of trans bodies is not Mature. Discussion of gender affirming tools such as tucking or binding is not Mature. Violence and explicit sex are Mature.
❤ If you feel that we have mislabeled something, failed to add a demographic label (eg: Asexuality), missed a trigger warning for a book that you know and we haven't added yet, or marked/not marked something as Mature incorrectly, please let us know!!! You can reach out to us on Instagram or Twitter or email us at vqlibrary@gmail.com.
To request a book from us, use This Google Form.
We want to make this process as easy and accessible as possible, but here are a few ground rules:
❤ Please clearly tell us how you want both yourself and your book addressed! We don't want to deadname you if we have to send you an eMail but we also don't want to out you through the US Postal Service. These are two separate questions on the request form.
❤ If you are under the age of 18, we will not send you books from our Mature collection. We ask your age in the form for that reason. Please be honest.
❤ Your book will come with a second envelope, prepaid postage attached, and already addressed to our PO Box. When you're finished with your book, just put it in the envelope and drop it in the mail.
❤ You may take out up to two books at a time, either at the same time or in two separate requests. You may keep the book as long as you like. Once you have two books out from the library, we will not send you any new books until we receive one of the others back.
All of this is a very new process and we ask you to be patient with us. If you encounter any bugs, problems, typos, accessibility issues, or other concerns please let us know!
